About PTSD

What is Post traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)?

People have said that you might have PTSD, but what does that even mean? You’ve lived through some difficult events, but plenty of other people have been through worse. You worry that PTSD means that you are crazy, and you don’t want people to treat you differently. You’re concerned that being labeled with PTSD will have negative consequences, and that has stopped you from learning more or asking for help.

Why do I feel anxious all of the time?

The symptoms of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder can be overwhelming and confusing, but they are a normal response to an abnormal event. While many people in our society experience at least one traumatic event in their lifetime, most people find that the symptoms resolve within about a month after the trauma. However, some people continue to experience symptoms for months, years, or even decades after the traumatic event happened. When people continue to experience symptoms long after the event, this is what we call PTSD.

Can trauma-focused therapy help me?

You’ve lived through a traumatic event, and no matter what you do, the memories haven’t gone away. You’re tired of feeling anxious all the time, and you wish you could slow down and enjoy time with your family and friends. You don’t want to lose your job or your relationship, and you’re worried about what might happen if you continue on this path. If you and/or your partner are struggling with symptoms of PTSD, therapy can help you feel better.
